Kindergarten

In our kindergarten program we focus on the total child. Our objective is to help our children grow spiritually, academically, physically, and social-emotionally. We know that children need to feel good about themselves in order to achieve their best, and we know that children all grow at their own rates. With that in mind, we provide opportunities for each of them to be successful.

Kindergarten is a time for discovery and is the time they begin their love for learning. They learn reading, writing and math skills while using hands on manipulatives. They participate in small learning center groups, create, dramatize, and express themselves through the arts. We acknowledge that technology is also an important tool to incorporate in their learning environment.

One of our objectives is to include parent involvement within our curriculum, whether it is at home or school. This we do because we believe that parents are their children’s primary educators. When teachers and parents become partners in education, children will grow to their fullest potential.

1st & 2nd Grades

In our primary program (grades 1-2), we focus on the total child.  We hold high expectations for our students spiritually, academically, and socially.  We know that children need to feel good about themselves in order to achieve their best.  With that in mind, we try to provide opportunities for each of them to be successful.

Our curriculum is based in Christian values, which are integrated throughout all curriculum areas. We provide a rich literature-based Language Arts program; including phonics, spelling, reading and grammar (applied to various forms of writing). Our thematic Social Studies and Science units allow the students to explore, collaborate, and engage in meaningful learning. We believe in and strive toward building a strong foundation in math.

Within each grade level, we collaborate in curriculum planning and assessment. Our objective is to work together as a team-student, parent and teacher, with the understanding that parents are their child’s primary educators. With this cooperative effort, we hope to instill positive character values, which will sustain each child throughout their lifetime.

Elementary Lanai

Aloha!
The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teachers are dedicated to providing our children with the tools they will need to thrive in the 21st century. We want our children to go beyond memorization of facts and dates. The students are being taught to think for themselves, to solve their problems with their words and their minds, and to respect themselves and others. We pride ourselves on the rich diversity of our families. Each of us has intrinsic value as a human being. Each of us has something to contribute. Each of our children can achieve their goals. Realization of these values of mutual respect and interdependence assists our students in reaching their potential academically, socially, and spiritually.

3rd Grade Curriculum

The highlights of third grade center around the individual student’s growth in personal responsibility and ability to work as a team member. As students learn to keep track of increasing amounts of information, they are also given the opportunity to both offer and receive support from their peers. Individual and team project work spans all core subjects and includes regular use of Literature circles, Readers’ theater casts, proofreading partnerships, Science projects, and Math and Spelling-drill teams. Third grade teachers at St. Anthony Parish School emphasize Language Arts. Students rotate through reading, writing, and phonics centers in order to improve their comprehension, fluency, accuracy, expression, and vocabulary. Math is taught using the spiraling approach of Saxon curriculum. Math concepts and computation skills are reinforced with daily facts practice, written practice problems, and occasional hands-on problem solving. Social Studies and Math--even Language Arts and Literature-- are integrated in a fourth quarter Economics unit that culminates with a student-run fair. Third-grade learning at St. Anthony Parish School is an exciting, challenging adventure.

4th Grade Curriculum

Fourth grade is a transition year for the students to develop and progress their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. They experience the concept of responsibility, collaborate with their peers to problem solve, and develop the confidence to be life-long learners. We hope that each student will grow emotionally, socially, and academically this year. The educational process is like a triangular team, with the three sides being the student, the teacher, and the family.

Our Hawaiiana studies and culminating Big Island Trip are an exciting and essential part of our fourth grade curriculum. This trip provides real experiences related to all our content areas. The activities we engage in bring all the sights, sounds, and experiences to life for our students. This extends growth by expanding our students’ world and provides a framework for their learning.
