Established in 1952, St. Anthony School opened its doors to its first kindergarten class and became the first private elementary school on the windward side of Oahu. Over the years, the school has grown to include two classes in kindergarten through eighth grade in the main school and an Early Learning Center for three and four year olds. Our history is rich with over ten thousand students having attended St. Anthony School and we send our greetings to our alumni.
Located in Kailua, adjacent to Kailua Beach and two miles from Marine Corps Base Hawaii, the school has a diverse student body composed of students from the Kailua, Waimanalo, Kaneohe and Marine Corps Base Hawaii area. The close proximity to the Marine base has allowed the school to have a close relationship with the military community and the school has been adopted by the 2nd Marines 3rd Battalion.
At St. Anthony School students receive a traditional Catholic education with an emphasis on Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science and Religion. Specialty classes in Music, Art, and Spanish language, Digital Technology, Physical Education and Library complete and enrich the student's learning experience. Optional support opportunities are available through the Middle School study hall, Reading Resource (K-8) and after school private tutoring.
Most important is our Catholic mission to develop moral and faithful young people who know God, demonstrate personal discipline and through social justice learning seek opportunities to serve others.
Parents may enroll their children in extra-curricular activities held during and after school. These include band, drama, hula, karate, Boys and Girls Scouts, Music and Movement, and an athletics program for grades four through eighth grade boys and girls in basketball, volleyball and track with the Catholic and Christian School Leagues.
This year, St. Anthony School was the recipient of a five-year grant, the Schools of the Future from the Hawaii Community Foundation, and supported by the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation. This opportunity has allowed us to join with other private schools to participate in professional development opportunities to transform practices to move toward project base learning, student collaboration and critical thinking, and implementing technology as a tool to facilitate student learning. We also adopted the Safe and Caring Schools program that focuses on the developing the emotional and social well being of students. These new programs directly benefit our student's learning as we prepare them to be equipped with the tools of a 21 Century learner in a safe and happy environment.
With the support of our parents and the necessary partnership between the school and home, we look forward to welcoming your child and family to our school.
With Aloha
Mrs. Bridget Olsen
St. Anthony School Principal
St. Anthony School is excited to announce that we have received a grant from the Hawaii Community Foundation through their Schools of the Future program. We are in partnership with St. John Vianney School to form a community called the Kailua Catholic Community of Learners (KCCL). The grant will be used to provide teacher professional development of 21st Century skills, support 21st Century Projects, and integrate technology as a tool in student learning. The grant award of $80,230.00 will be shared by both schools as they seek to transform existing practices to enable students to lead with a caring mind and serve with a connected heart.
