15 January, 2007

certificates as first and second place winners, respectively.

What Western African OPEC nation is one of the world’s largest producers of petroleum?   Don’t know…. Well, Dominic Bush, one of our 7th graders, knew, and with that correct answer he became the St. Anthony school-level winner of the National Geographic sponsored Geography Bee.

Dominic will now submit a written test to the National Geographic Society and, if he is one of the top 100 scorers in the state, he will go on to compete at the state level Bee in March.  Dominic also won the school Bee last year and went on to compete in the State finals.  State level winners will compete at the National Bee for a chance to win a $25,000 scholarship.

Other finalist this year included the second place finisher, Wyatt Pedro, and the following students:  Tianna DeCosta, Shelby Isham, Chelsey, Kahoonei, Lehua La’a, Wilson MacLeod, Kate Miller, John Mee, and Kathy Sirks.

Oh…Dominic’s winning answer?   Nigeria!
