<long>It’s time once again for the Scholastic Book Fair! Each fall, St. Anthony School hosts a book fair as a fundraiser for our school library. This year the fair will be held from November 14-18 with a Family Night on Wednesday, 16 November from 5-7 pm. On family night bring a blanket and pillows to help you get comfortable while our medley of special readers read short books to the kids. Enjoy free popcorn and lemonade from the PTSG. Other food available for purchase. If you know of a charismatic person, local figure, or actor who would enjoy reading a short book at this event, please contact Donna Otto at 630-1690 or rdo@hawaii.rr.com
And for parents who might like to sneak in a little early Christmas shopping, we will also be open Thursday evening, prior to the PTSG meeting.
We will also be offering a new and exciting feature to the fair this year, the Online Book Fair that will run from November 7-22. For more details, look for information coming home in the Tuesday folders, or check the library page of our school website. If you would like to volunteer, email Joyce Pollock at jpollock@saskailua.org.

<long>October is National Energy Awareness Month, and Blue Planet Foundation aims to replace 100,000 incandescent bulbs with energy-saving CFLs this month with your help! Blue Planet will reward SAS $0.40 for every bulb exchanged. Exchanging 100,000 CFLs will save Hawaii residents more than 14 million on their electricity bills, displacing 81,000 barrels of oil and 40,000 tons of carbon pollution. To learn more about the program go to http://blueplanetfoundation.org/cfl-fundraiser.html
During the month of October bring your incandescent bulbs to SAS before or after school and receive a free CFL bulb! If exchanging less than four bulbs, please bring a small container for your bulbs. Some suggestions are small milk cartons or a to-go-cup with a lid. Also, The Green Club will have a station set up at the Fall Festival on October 14th to exchange bulbs. The bulbs are free and equivalent to a 60 watt bulb. We have 1,000 bulbs ready for exchange! Email egarrison@saskailua.org with any questions.

<long>This past Friday, September 9, 2011, Saint Anthony School students, faculty, staff, and parents, gathered together for a special September 11th Memorial Mass. Parish and school members collaborated in the folding of symbolic cranes to help honor the memory of those who lost their lives on that tragic day, and those who have given their lives (like Christ) for the good of all mankind. Cranes symbolize peace, hope, and well-being. The process of folding cranes requires patience, endurance, time, and focus. As Catholics, we strive to fulfill these virtues and pass them along to our students and our children, who will take them out into the world and live and serve as Christ did. In doing so, it is our hope that, one day, peace will exist worldwide. Our undying pride, prayers, and gratitude go out to those who have or are currently defending our freedom; our warriors of peace, whose struggles make our world a better place.
