Kindergarten- 2nd Grade

Our curriculum meets the Hawaii Catholic Schools Curriculum Standards and is designed to nurture, inspire, and enrich a culture guided by faith. Grades K–2

English Language Arts (HMH Into Reading)
At St. Anthony Catholic School, our Early Elementary learners build strong literacy foundations through HMH Into Reading, a comprehensive, research-based reading program designed to nurture confident, joyful readers. Students develop essential skills in phonics, phonological awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing through engaging lessons, rich stories, and interactive activities. The program’s structured, systematic approach ensures that every child receives the support they need—whether they’re beginning to recognize letters and sounds or growing into fluent early readers. With vibrant texts, hands-on learning, and opportunities for meaningful discussion, HMH Into Reading helps students foster a love of reading that lasts far beyond the classroom.

Pearson Phonics
Pearson Phonics is another curriculum resource used to help develop letter recognition, decoding, and spelling.

Math (McGraw Hill Reveal Math)
Derived from the latest research on how students learn best, Reveal Math is strategically designed to fuel active student engagement and deepen conceptual understanding. Reveal Math introduces foundational math concepts through hands-on activities and real-world problem-solving.

Science (Grades K–2 – TCI Bring Science Alive!)
Using TCI’s Bring Science Alive! curriculum, students in Grades K–2 explore hands-on, inquiry-based science that encourages curiosity, observation, and problem-solving while helping them understand the world around them.

  • Kindergarten – Me and My World: Students explore themselves, their classroom, and the wider environment, learning to observe, ask questions, and describe the world around them. Through hands-on activities, they develop foundational science skills while discovering the connections between people and their surroundings.

  • 1st Grade – My Senses and Environment: Students investigate how their senses help them interact with the environment. They explore plants, animals, weather, and physical properties, developing observation, comparison, and prediction skills through engaging, hands-on experiments.

  • 2nd Grade – Living Things and Their Habitats: Students study plants, animals, and their habitats, learning how living things adapt and interact with their environment. They engage in experiments, observations, and discussions that build understanding of ecosystems and the importance of environmental stewardship.

Social Studies (Grades K–2 – TCI / Social Studies Alive!)
Using TCI’s Social Studies Alive! curriculum, students in Grades K–2 explore communities, relationships, and civic responsibility through hands-on, inquiry-based learning that builds curiosity and critical thinking.

  • Kindergarten – Me and My World: Students explore themselves, their families, and their immediate community. Through interactive activities and discussions, they learn about personal identity, relationships, and how they belong to the world around them.

  • 1st Grade – My School and Family: Students examine school life, family roles, and community connections. Engaging lessons and collaborative projects help them understand how people work together and contribute to their community.

  • 2nd Grade – My Community: Students study local communities, geography, and civic responsibilities. Hands-on activities and investigations help students understand how individuals interact with each other and the environment while learning the importance of participation and stewardship.

Scholastic Magazines (Grades K–5)
Students engage with age-appropriate nonfiction and fiction texts that strengthen reading comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills. These magazines complement the overall curriculum by promoting global awareness, cultural understanding, and curiosity about the world, helping students make connections between what they read and the communities, people, and ideas around them.

Religion (Sadlier “We Believe We Are the Church,” Grades K–3)
Students begin their faith formation with We Believe We Are the Church, learning about Catholic teachings, Scripture, and the importance of community. The program encourages children to reflect on their actions, practice kindness, and make thoughtful choices in daily life. Through stories, discussions, prayer, and hands-on activities, students develop a foundational understanding of their faith while growing in empathy, respect, and a sense of belonging within their school and parish community.

FRIENDZY Character Development (Grades K–8)
Students explore empathy, respect, integrity, and responsible decision-making through FRIENDZY Character Development. The program encourages meaningful reflection, positive interactions, and practical application of character skills in daily life. By engaging in discussions, role-playing, and collaborative activities, students learn to navigate social situations, build strong relationships, and contribute positively to their school and community.
